The SIPCOT Hosur Lake has been successfully revitalised by Titan Company Limited under its Sustainability (Pragati) project, working with Hosur Municipal Corporation and SIPCOT to turn an important urban waterbody into a thriving ecological and social asset. This initiative, which marks the company’s third significant intervention in the state this year, exemplifies the ability of industry-government collaborations to develop sustainable urban water management solutions and improve the welfare of communities.
SIPCOT Hosur Lake is an essential part of Hosur’s hydrological network, covering 10.5 acres with a catchment area of 78.71 hectares. It is connected downstream to Santhapuram Lake, which eventually empties into the Ponniyar River. The lake is essential to stormwater management, groundwater recharge, and maintaining the local water balance in the face of increasing industrial and residential demand because the town receives 750–800 mm of rainfall annually.
In collaboration with the Hosur Municipal Corporation (HMC) and SIPCOT, Titan Company Limited revitalised SIPCOT-Hosur Lake under the Namakku Naame Thittam initiative as part of its Sustainability (Pragati) obligations. Surya Shakti Greenlands Pvt. Ltd. and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Limited (iDeCK) carried out the project. The restoration’s main results include deepening the lake from 1.5 to 8 metres and increasing its water-holding capacity from 5.6 to 17.1 crore litres. In order to promote community connection, the project also included structural improvements like stone pitching and bund strengthening, in addition to the construction of a 950-metre walking and jogging track. More than 4,300 seedlings have been planted to improve greenbelt formation and ecological resilience, and a 40,000-square-foot Miyawaki forest island has been added to increase biodiversity.
Speaking at the event, Titan Company Limited Managing Director C.K. Venkataraman stated, “The revitalisation of SIPCOT Hosur Lake is a prime example of our dedication to sustainability and community well-being through the Pragati programme. We hope to improve Hosur’s water security and biodiversity by restoring this important body of water and establishing a green, secure area for locals to enjoy. This project is an example of how industry and government may work together to create long-lasting social and environmental change.
Clearing inlets, rerouting sewage to enhance water quality, and putting in fencing, lighting, and communal areas to guarantee public safety and accessibility were other upgrades. SIPCOT Hosur Lake is now a green lung for the city, a centre for biodiversity, and a friendly public area for locals thanks to this project.
The Managing Director of Titan Company Limited, C.K. Venkataraman, formally turned over the project to the Chief Guests, Hon. S.A. Sathya, Mayor of Hosur City Municipal Corporation, and Commissioner of Hosur City Municipal Corporation, Md. Shabbir Alam, IAS, during the rejuvenation ceremony.
Titan Company is promoting comprehensive interventions that empower communities, revitalise natural water systems, and create resilient, thriving landscapes throughout the state, as evidenced by the groundbreaking Masaorambhu Stream restoration in Coimbatore, the expansive Gunduperumbedu Lake rejuvenation in Sriperumbudur, and the recently completed SIPCOT Hosur Lake project.
