Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has sanctioned significant funds under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to strengthen infrastructure in government schools across coastal Karnataka, particularly in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
The funding, amounting to several crores, is aimed at addressing long-standing gaps in basic educational facilities such as classrooms, auditoriums, and school buildings. Despite rising student enrolment in rural areas, many schools have been struggling with inadequate infrastructure, prompting the need for urgent intervention.
In Udupi district alone, multiple schools have received allocations for development works, including new classrooms and upgrades to existing facilities. Meanwhile, in Dakshina Kannada, funds have been earmarked for constructing modern auditoriums, additional classrooms, and new school buildings to enhance the overall learning environment.
The initiative was driven by local leadership efforts, where officials highlighted the poor conditions of rural schools and sought corporate support. MRPL responded positively, showcasing how industry participation can complement government efforts in improving public education.
This CSR push is expected to significantly uplift the quality of education in these regions by providing better infrastructure and learning conditions for students, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds. It also reflects a broader trend of public-private collaboration in advancing rural education and community development.
