Duravit India is strengthening its sustainability efforts by combining sanitation, water conservation, and climate-focused initiatives with community development programmes. The company says its approach goes beyond manufacturing and focuses on creating long-term social and environmental impact through responsible business practices and local engagement.
As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Duravit has committed itself to achieving climate-neutral global operations by 2045. The company stated that its sustainability roadmap is built around four key pillars — water, climate, resources, and people — with each business decision evaluated through an environmental and social responsibility lens.
In India, sanitation and access to hygienic facilities remain central to Duravit’s community initiatives. Through its corporate social responsibility programmes, the company has renovated and upgraded sanitation infrastructure in schools across Gujarat. These projects have reportedly improved access to hygienic toilet facilities for more than 3,200 children, supporting better health, hygiene awareness, and school attendance.
The company’s initiatives align closely with global and national sustainability goals, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and India’s sanitation-focused programmes. Duravit says access to clean sanitation is not only a public health issue but also a critical component of dignity, education, and long-term community wellbeing.
Apart from sanitation, Duravit is also focusing heavily on sustainable manufacturing and climate responsibility. The company aims to reduce global carbon emissions by 20 per cent by 2030 while increasing the use of recycled materials in its products to an average of 30 per cent. Water-saving technologies are another major focus area, with the company targeting more than 80 per cent of its products to include water-efficient systems over the coming years.
Duravit officials say sustainable manufacturing is becoming increasingly important as industries face growing pressure to reduce emissions and conserve resources. The company has invested in cleaner production systems, renewable energy integration, and environmentally responsible material sourcing to support its long-term climate goals.
The company also believes that sustainability efforts are most effective when local communities actively participate in them. Experts increasingly argue that sanitation and water programmes succeed only when communities develop long-term ownership and awareness around hygiene and resource conservation. Public discussions around India’s sanitation challenges often highlight the importance of civic participation, maintenance, and behavioural change alongside infrastructure development.
Water conservation remains another important part of Duravit’s sustainability agenda. The company says its products are continuously being redesigned to improve water efficiency and reduce wastage in residential and commercial spaces. According to Duravit, optimized flushing systems and water-saving bathroom technologies have already contributed to significant freshwater savings in several markets globally.
Industry experts note that companies operating in the construction and sanitaryware sectors are increasingly expected to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into both operations and community engagement. Climate neutrality, circular manufacturing, responsible water use, and social development are becoming critical benchmarks for long-term business sustainability.
Duravit’s community-led sustainability efforts reflect a broader shift in corporate responsibility where businesses are moving beyond traditional CSR donations toward measurable environmental and social impact.
