Hindustan Zinc has strengthened its commitment to improving education in rural Rajasthan through its flagship Shiksha Sambal initiative, which has positively impacted more than 47,000 students since its launch in 2018. Designed to bridge learning gaps and improve academic outcomes, the programme focuses on enhancing students’ understanding of Science, Mathematics, and English while encouraging holistic development through experiential learning.
The initiative currently covers 76 government schools spread across six districts of Rajasthan, providing students with structured academic support throughout the year. By integrating classroom learning with interactive teaching methods, Shiksha Sambal aims to make education more engaging and accessible for children studying in underserved communities.
A major highlight of the programme is its annual summer learning camp, which recently completed its ninth edition. The camp brought together more than 1,600 students for an immersive educational experience that extended beyond conventional classroom teaching. Participants explored science experiments, digital learning, innovation, arts, sports, and other co-curricular activities designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and confidence.
The summer camp was supported by volunteers from reputed educational institutions, including the University of Delhi and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), along with Hindustan Zinc employees and members of the local community. Their collective efforts helped create an engaging environment where students could develop practical knowledge and strengthen essential life skills.
According to the company, the initiative has delivered encouraging academic results during the current financial year. Students associated with the programme achieved a Class 10 pass percentage of 92.53%, while the Class 12 pass rate reached an impressive 99.43%. Additionally, 37 participating government schools recorded a 100% pass rate, reflecting the programme’s contribution to improving educational performance across the supported institutions.
Beyond academic achievements, Shiksha Sambal also places significant emphasis on personal growth and future readiness. Students are encouraged to develop communication skills, digital literacy, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities that can support their higher education and career aspirations. The initiative seeks to create a strong foundation that prepares learners to compete confidently in an evolving educational and professional landscape.
The programme has also inspired success stories among its beneficiaries. Former participants have credited the initiative with helping them gain confidence, strengthen their understanding of STEM subjects, and pursue higher education opportunities. One such student is currently studying at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), demonstrating the long-term impact that sustained educational support can have on young learners from rural backgrounds.
Shiksha Sambal forms an integral part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which focuses on education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, livelihood generation, skill development, and environmental sustainability. Through these community-focused initiatives, the company says it has reached more than 4,100 villages and positively impacted over 2.6 million people across its operational regions.
By combining quality education with experiential learning and community participation, Hindustan Zinc continues to invest in creating better educational opportunities for rural students. The company’s ongoing efforts aim not only to improve academic outcomes but also to equip young learners with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to build brighter futures while contributing to the overall development of communities across Rajasthan.
