REC Limited has approved financial assistance of ₹4.22 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to establish 100 smart classrooms in 100 government schools across Assam’s Lakhimpur and Kaziranga regions. The initiative is aimed at strengthening digital education infrastructure and improving learning outcomes by introducing modern classroom technologies in government schools.
The project, titled “Establishing 100 Smart Classrooms in 100 Government Schools in the Lakhimpur and Kaziranga Regions of Assam,” seeks to provide students with access to interactive and technology-enabled learning environments. By integrating digital teaching tools into classrooms, the initiative is expected to make education more engaging, improve classroom participation, and support better academic performance.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the project was signed on July 2, 2026, at REC Limited’s corporate office in Gurugram. The agreement was signed by L. B. Nautiyal, Head of Department (CSR), REC Limited, and B. Vinod Kumar, Director of the Indo German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT), which will partner in implementing the initiative.
The signing ceremony was attended by Arun Kumar Tyagi, Executive Director (CSR), REC Limited, along with senior officials from REC and IGIAT. The collaboration is expected to facilitate the successful rollout of digital classroom infrastructure across the selected government schools.
The smart classroom project reflects REC’s continued commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in underserved regions through its CSR initiatives. By equipping schools with digital learning resources and interactive teaching technologies, the company aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that students in rural and remote areas have access to quality education comparable to that available in urban institutions.
Digital classrooms have become increasingly important in improving teaching methodologies and student engagement. Smart learning tools enable teachers to use multimedia content, interactive presentations, and digital educational resources that make lessons more effective and easier to understand. Such technology also helps students develop digital literacy skills that are becoming essential in today’s education system and future workplaces.
Education remains one of the core focus areas of REC’s CSR strategy. Over the years, the company has supported several initiatives designed to improve school infrastructure, healthcare facilities, skill development programmes, environmental sustainability, and community welfare across different parts of India. Through these investments, REC aims to contribute to inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development.
The Assam smart classroom initiative is expected to benefit thousands of students studying in government schools by creating a more modern and engaging learning environment. It also aligns with broader efforts to promote digital education and improve the quality of public schooling through technology-driven solutions.
With this investment, REC Limited continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting educational transformation and empowering communities through meaningful CSR interventions. The project is expected to play a significant role in enhancing the learning experience of students while strengthening digital education infrastructure in Assam.
