BRUSSELS, September 16, 2026: Radisson Hotel Group (RHG) and GDS-Movement have launched a new guide to help associations and Professional Conference Organizers (PCOs) turn sustainability goals into practical action in the meetings and events industry.
The guide, titled Accelerating Sustainable & Regenerative Events: A Guide for Associations & PCOs, was unveiled to industry stakeholders in Brussels. It provides practical tools, destination data and measurement frameworks to help event planners include sustainability in event planning, delivery and reporting.

The initiative comes as many organizations recognize the importance of sustainability but continue to face difficulties putting their plans into practice. According to the findings shared by the organizations, 66% of associations consider sustainability highly important, but fewer than 34% have integrated it into their operations. Only 3% report having an advanced sustainability programme.
“The industry does not have a sustainability awareness problem; it has an implementation challenge,” said Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability and Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group. She said the guide aims to help planners move from sustainability ambitions to action through practical tools, trusted frameworks and stronger collaboration.
The roadmap was developed using insights from destinations participating in the GDS-Index, a programme that benchmarks and supports destination sustainability performance. The guide highlights the important role destinations can play in helping event organizers make informed and consistent sustainability decisions.

“Destinations play a pivotal role in accelerating the transition toward sustainable and regenerative events,” said Guy Bigwood, CEO and Chief Changemaker of GDS-Movement. He stressed that cooperation between destinations, venues and suppliers is important for creating events with environmental, social and economic benefits.
The guide outlines five key actions: working with destination partners earlier, choosing certified and sustainable suppliers, including social impact initiatives, promoting low-carbon transport and using sustainability-linked measurement and reporting systems.
The partnership between Radisson Hotel Group and GDS-Movement aims to help organizations apply consistent sustainability practices across conferences, congresses and other events in different destinations.
