Ambuja Cements, a member of the diverse Adani Portfolio and the ninth-largest building materials solutions company in the world, keeps transforming communities by making targeted investments in rural infrastructure and water resource management. According to an impartial impact evaluation by CRISIL, the Ambuja Foundation’s operations in Baloda Bazar, Chhattisgarh, have produced an impressive Social Return on Investment (SROI) of Rs. 10.12. The program’s profound and long-lasting effects on local livelihoods, water security, and rural development are demonstrated by the fact that for every Rs. 1 invested, Rs. 10.12 in social value was produced.
The survey, which had 252 respondents from underserved communities and was carried out across 10 villages, demonstrates how Ambuja Cements’ activities have enhanced daily living circumstances and expanded access to clean water. The projects have decreased home water shortage from 46% to 4%, increased water storage capacity by over 220,000 cubic metres, and decreased the amount of time spent getting water from 55 minutes to just 12 minutes. Sprinklers and other sustainable irrigation techniques were widely used, and better road and school infrastructure boosted rural residents’ mobility, education, and hygiene. Additionally, communities reported a significant decrease in household medical costs and a 60% improvement in health outcomes.
Motivated by Ambuja Cements’ enduring dedication to creating resilient communities, the business keeps incorporating social impact and sustainability into its main business operations. In the future, the emphasis will continue to be on enhancing community control of water resources by means of user committees, increasing the number of rainwater collection systems, and connecting sustainable agriculture with water security. Ambuja Cements’ conviction that real prosperity comes from empowering rural India via inclusive progress, resilient infrastructure, and resource efficiency is reaffirmed by these projects.
