Apple has announced a new investment of ₹100 crore to strengthen renewable energy development in India, marking another major step in the company’s long-term sustainability strategy. The initiative will be carried out in partnership with CleanMax, a renewable energy provider that works with commercial and industrial clients across the country. Through this collaboration, Apple aims to support the creation of more than 150 megawatts of renewable energy capacity, helping reduce carbon emissions linked to its operations and manufacturing ecosystem in India.
The investment reflects Apple’s growing focus on clean energy as it expands its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing manufacturing hubs. India has become increasingly important for Apple over the past few years, with the company steadily increasing local production of iPhones and other products through suppliers operating in different parts of the country. As manufacturing activities rise, the demand for sustainable power solutions has also increased, making renewable energy a key part of Apple’s long-term plans.
According to reports, the new renewable energy capacity developed under the partnership could generate enough electricity to meet the annual energy needs of nearly 1.5 lakh households. The projects are expected to contribute significantly to reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels while supporting India’s broader clean energy goals. Apple believes such investments can help create a greener supply chain while encouraging more industries to adopt environmentally responsible practices.
The company has repeatedly stated that it wants to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product lifecycle by 2030. To achieve this target, Apple has been investing in renewable energy projects in several countries and encouraging suppliers to transition toward cleaner energy sources. India’s rapidly expanding renewable energy sector provides a strong opportunity for the company to accelerate these goals.
Industry experts view the investment as an important signal of confidence in India’s renewable energy ecosystem. Large global companies increasingly see India as a strategic destination for both manufacturing and sustainable infrastructure investments. The move could also encourage more multinational firms to increase funding in clean energy projects as environmental standards become a critical part of global supply chains.
Apart from renewable energy expansion, Apple has also been involved in various environmental initiatives worldwide. These include reducing plastic usage in packaging, increasing the use of recycled materials in products, improving energy efficiency, and supporting environmental innovation programs. The company has consistently highlighted sustainability as a central part of its business strategy and brand identity.
The announcement comes at a time when India is pushing aggressively toward renewable energy adoption to reduce carbon emissions and meet future power demand through cleaner sources. Government policies promoting solar and wind energy have attracted investments from both domestic and international companies. Apple’s latest commitment is expected to further strengthen this momentum while reinforcing the country’s role in the global clean energy transition.
With this investment, Apple not only deepens its commitment to India’s manufacturing ecosystem but also strengthens its position as a company focused on environmentally sustainable growth
