The SCOPE Eminence Award for Environmental Excellence & Sustainable Development for 2022–2023 has been given to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 and Maharatna business. The honour highlights BPCL’s steadfast dedication to sustainability and its part in the country’s shift to green energy. At a distinguished event organised by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), President of India Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) with the additional responsibility of Chairman & Managing Director, and Vetsa Ramkrishna Gupta, Director (Finance), in the presence of Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.
With its ambitious Net Zero by 2040 vision, BPCL is spearheading India’s transition to a low-carbon future. To promote sustainable growth and lessen its carbon footprint, it is making calculated investments in renewable energy, compressed biogas (CBG), biofuels, and green hydrogen.
The business now runs more than 6,500 EV charging stations, improving India’s EV infrastructure even more. In line with international climate targets, BPCL is also actively developing an integrated energy ecosystem. The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) established the Eminence Awards to honour distinction in business leadership, innovation, sustainable practices, and public sector governance. PSUs that exhibit leadership in environmentally responsible and sustainable activities are recognised in the Environment Excellence category.
