As part of its CSR program, Project Prakriti, Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL), Ludhiana, opened a three-acre Miyawaki forest and green belt in the Challi Khoo neighbourhood of Amritsar on 3 November. The MLA, Municipal Commissioner Bikramjeet Singh, Additional Commissioner Vishal Wadhawan, and the head of CSR at VSSL officially launched the initiative, which was created in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Amritsar and MLA (East) Jiwanjot Kaur.
The project is in line with VSSL chairman Sachit Jain’s goal of creating 1,000 acres of green forest space throughout Punjab to support a healthier environment, according to CSR head Amit Dhawan. There will be around 60 native plant species in this woodland. The MLA and Municipal Commissioner also expressed great appreciation for our prior project, which was a three-acre forest with 21,000 saplings, Dhawan said.
A comparable green area was earlier established by VSSL in Mallakpur village, Ludhiana, where Project Prakriti planted 10,000 trees of 44 different species. In order to make the Amritsar initiative a reality, Dhawan stressed the significance of collaboration between the Municipal Corporation and the MLA.
“With its dense plantations and walking trails, this will be Amritsar’s largest Miyawaki forest and help to improve the city’s air quality,” he continued. EcoSikh representatives outlined the advantages of planting native tree species for the environment, emphasising how important they are to maintaining biodiversity and improving the local ecosystem.
