Through the Vidyanjali portal, a flagship project of the Union Ministry of Education created to promote community participation in schools, the Delhi government has encouraged its schools to actively work with non-governmental organisations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) organisations. The action is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which highlights public involvement, teamwork, and voluntarism as essential elements in changing India’s educational system, according to a circular released by the Directorate of Education (DoE).
Through the Vidyanjali portal, NGOs, non-profits, and CSR partners can now formally offer their services to the Delhi government and aided schools, according to the DoE. The circular emphasises that although schools are urged to take advantage of Vidyanjali as much as possible, they must make sure that no critical or private student information is disclosed to outside parties.
According to the Department of School Education and Literacy’s (DoSEL) criteria, the “Adopt-a-School” module permits long-term collaborations for infrastructural assistance, resource enhancement, and educational quality improvement.
On January 20, 2025, DoSEL released the concept note for this module after a high-level meeting that was presided over by the ministry’s economic adviser. Depending on the particular needs of the school, principals and heads of schools have the authority to accept proposals directly from CSR partners via the portal.
While the Directorate does not need prior approval for routine activities, schools must use the e-office system to obtain permission for large projects like building classrooms, restrooms, or expensive infrastructure. The school and the contributing organisation must work together to complete the documentation for all CSR proposals, which must only be submitted through the Vidyanjali platform.
The circular also suggests that the manufacturer’s warranty should preferably cover asset upkeep. For modest maintenance, schools can use their Composite School Grant.
CSR organisations may support schools through sponsorships, events, or material assets after receiving governmental approval, guaranteeing accountability, sustainability, and transparency in execution.
