Energy Vault Holdings Inc., a US-based company, announced recently that it and EU Green Energy LLC had signed a framework deal to install up to $250 million worth of battery energy storage systems, or 1.8 gigawatt-hours, throughout the Balkans over the course of the following four years.
The agreement intends to increase grid flexibility and hasten the deployment of renewable energy in Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. For both businesses, the framework supply agreement is a strategic move. Under the agreement, grid-scale battery energy storage vendor Energy Vault will supply its VaultOS energy management software and B-VAULT battery systems.
Marco Terruzzin, chief sales officer of Energy Vault, stated, “This partnership will accelerate renewable integration in one of Europe’s fastest-growing energy markets.” “EU Green Energy will be able to implement projects more rapidly and effectively with the support of our platforms.”
According to EU Green Energy, a Balkan renewable energy provider, the collaboration fits with its strategy to increase the amount of clean energy it offers in the area. Under an energy equipment and services agreement, the first project under the deal—a 100 megawatt/400 megawatt-hour system in southern Albania—has begun construction.
The project’s 50 MW/200 MWh Phase 1 will be situated at Kulluricë. It is anticipated to begin commercial operations in 2026’s third quarter. In the first quarter of 2027, Phase 2, which has the same capacity, is scheduled to go online.
The installation will improve grid performance and dependability by utilising Energy Vault’s patented technologies. Nevertheless, Albania’s ultimate parliamentary clearance of the project is still pending. Energy Vault’s software and hardware solutions “perfectly fit our growth strategy,” according to EU Green Energy President Alfons Uka.
“Choosing a partner who understands our needs has taken a lot of time,” Uka stated. “Our expansion in Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, and North Macedonia will be supported by Energy Vault’s demonstrated technical expertise and customer focus.”
In order to promote regional energy transition aims, the companies intend to duplicate the Albanian model in other Balkan markets.
