Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, has trained and created awareness among around 25,000 Navi Mumbaikars in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) under its ‘Har Ghar Hero’ initiative. The programme aimed to help ordinary citizens respond quickly to cardiac emergencies before professional medical help arrives.
The initiative was expanded beyond the hospital and taken to residential societies, schools and colleges, corporate organisations and Ganpati pandals across Navi Mumbai. The programme was planned around the Ganpati festival, using community gatherings to spread awareness about emergency preparedness and the importance of timely CPR.
The hospital conducted sessions at several community locations, including Vashi, Sanpada, Juinagar and Koparkhairane, along with residential complexes and educational institutions. Participants were taught how to identify signs of cardiac arrest, seek emergency medical assistance and perform basic CPR during the critical first few minutes of an emergency.
With Navi Mumbai having a population of more than 15 lakh, the hospital said community-level emergency preparedness is important. Cardiac arrests often happen outside hospitals, including at home, making immediate action by people nearby especially important.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ashutosh Pandey, Facility Director, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, said, “A cardiac emergency can occur anywhere. Studies show that immediate CPR can improve a person’s chances of survival two to three times. Through ‘Har Ghar Hero’, we were able to take CPR awareness directly into communities and help address the hesitation and uncertainty that often accompany a medical emergency.”
The initiative will continue even after the 10-day Ganpati festival. Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi will conduct CPR training sessions every Sunday from 4 pm to 5 pm throughout October 2026. Participants completing the training will receive CPR certification. The programme, also called ‘Har Ghar CPR Hero’, aims to increase the number of CPR-aware citizens in Navi Mumbai and promote emergency preparedness as a shared community responsibility.
