One of the most well-known teams in the Chandigarh Golf League (CGL), GB Legends, has raised the bar by being the only CGL team to introduce a formal Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme that supports children from economically weaker sections (EWS) and develops golf talent from disadvantaged backgrounds. At a press conference on August 26 at the CGA Golf Range in Chandigarh, the programme was formally unveiled.
The project, which is supported by GB Realty, aims to democratise access to golf by spotting untapped potential, offering top-notch coaching and resources, and developing an inclusive, sustainable golf ecosystem in Chandigarh. Talent should be given opportunities, not favours. “We want to democratise access and prepare a pool of champions for the 2028 Olympics with GB Legends,” stated Gurnav Bhatti, Team Owner of GB Legends. “Our vision is to make golf more inclusive,” said co-owner Jatinder Singh Bajwa. “In addition to influencing careers, we are giving back to the community that has long supported our sport by helping young people from low-income families,” Bajwa added.
Promising golfers like Saurav Das, son of a canteen assistant; Sukhleen Kaur, daughter of a domestic helper; Roopwant Singh Mattu; Rudraj Diwan; and Raza Kaur are being mentored by GB Legends as part of the initiative. They are getting expert instruction, tournament fee support, and equipment assistance. The tale of Prashant Nanda, an autistic boy who benefited from GB Legends’ holistic development module, is especially heartwarming. He receives instruction in golf tactics in addition to sessions with sports medicine consultant Cdr (Dr) Vimal Vibhakar, physiotherapist Dr Sidharth Bansal, fitness trainer Sagar Diwan, wellness coach Upasana Thakur, psychologist Aseesinder Khurana, and trainer Akash.
“This is about developing whole athletes, not just about competition. “We are preparing future champions who can restore Chandigarh’s position on India’s golfing map with structured support in coaching, fitness, psychology, and mentorship,” stated Dr Ravisher Toor, Vice-Captain, GB Legends. The coaching staff, which consists of caddy-turned-professionals Akshay Sharma, Harendra Gupta, and Ranjit Singh, is what makes the programme special and represents GB Legends’ dedication to elevating the game’s grassroots contributors. “When success is shared, true legacy is built,” said Amit Sood, CEO of GB Legends. We are demonstrating that champions are made in life as well as on the course at GB Legends by striking a balance between performance and purpose. “This is a long-term commitment,” said Indian Golf Union (IGU) Council Member Harpuneet Sandhu, who commended the endeavour.
The programme aims to create a community where aspiring golfers can learn, develop, and become champions in addition to focusing on competitive strength. The birthplace of Indian golf has always been Chandigarh. “We are not only reviving its past but also influencing the next generation of top talent with projects like these,” Bhatti said.
