Kochi Corporation effectively used corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding to carry out a number of projects, including simplifying garbage management and renovating homes and public areas. Mayor M. Anilkumar asserted that the local government could make efficient use of CSR contributions. “This improved the company’s reputation. “Many council members could successfully carry out projects with CSR funds,” he stated. Councillor Dibin Dileep carried out the “Heal Ponnurunni” project in the Ponnurunni division in an effort to eliminate trash. Waste used to accumulate beneath the Ponnurunni railway overbridge (ROB), where a park was established.
In Ponnurunni, it was common practice to dump trash in public areas. We came up with a plan to eliminate waste in Ponnurunni. “CSR funds were provided by a private company to establish a biodegradable waste treatment plant,” Dileep stated. Heal Ponnurunni began farming on six plots of one acre of land in the division. With the installation of QR codes in 1,800 homes and institutions, the division’s waste management became more intelligent thanks to the My Kochi app.
Through the app, locals may learn about fees and rubbish removal. “POS machines are used to collect user fees,” Dileep stated. He said that members of the Haritha Karma Sena gather rubbish, turn it into enriched fertiliser, and sell it under the HEAL Environment brand for Rs 30 per kilogramme. Councillor S Sasikala in Ravipuram also funded these kinds of initiatives with CSR monies. ” In our section, six homes in Ambalothparambu were in poor shape.
In order to prevent leaks, we built truss work beneath all six houses. Since there were no bathrooms, we built six and restored the houses,” Sasikala added. “In Ravipuram, the company established its first resource recovery facility (RRF).” At the RRF, plastic garbage from six local divisions is now being separated.
Approximately 650 biobins were given to homes. CSR funds might be used for all of these,” she continued. Henry Austin, a councilman from Vaduthala, might help finish the construction of homes built under the Life Mission utilising CSR monies. “We could carry out other projects like renovating public spaces with CSR funds,” Austin stated. Using CSR funds, Vennala resident R Ratheesh could finish renovating Govt High School in Padivattom, including installing solar plants. Corporation officials implemented a number of projects using CSR monies from BPCL Kochi Refinery and Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL). A private company’s CSR funds were used to purchase equipment for the Samridhi Kitchen, where food goods are distributed at discounted rates. The corporation was able to fill the funding gap for Samridhi Kitchens in Ernakulam and Fort Kochi with the assistance of funds from CSL and BPCL Kochi Refinery.
