More than ₹21 crore in financial assistance was provided to 508 farmer families in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah during 2025-26 under the Chief Minister’s Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme.
Hundreds of families who lost their primary earners in farming-related and other accidents received financial support from the Uttar Pradesh government during the 2025-26 financial year. Under the Chief Minister’s Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme, 508 families in Etawah were given a total of ₹21.10 crore in assistance.
The scheme provides financial aid of up to ₹5 lakh to families of farmers who die or suffer permanent disability because of an accident. Its coverage has been expanded beyond landholding farmers to include sharecroppers, lessees and landless agricultural labourers.
For families in the Jaswantnagar area, the assistance has provided relief after sudden deaths of their breadwinners.
Family Gets ₹5 Lakh After Farmer’s Death
Prem Singh, a resident of Nagla Banshi village, died in a road accident while he was travelling to collect fodder for his buffaloes. He was around 53 years old. After a motorcycle hit him near the Bhognipur canal, he fell into a ditch and was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Singh left behind his wife, three daughters and two minor sons. The family owned around five bighas of land and faced financial difficulties following his death.
The family learnt about the scheme through local residents. With help from the village lekhpal, they submitted Aadhaar, photographs and land records through an online application. Officials later verified the claim at their home.
Around four months later, ₹5 lakh was credited to his wife Phool Devi’s bank account. The family said the process did not require repeated visits to government offices.
Phool Devi said the money would help with her daughters’ weddings and support her sons’ education.
Another Family Receives ₹5 Lakh
Ramnarayan Sharma of Nagri village died in a road accident in September 2025 while returning from Firozabad. His family later applied online for assistance and received ₹5 lakh within around six months, according to the family.
Narendra Kumar, in-charge of the LRC department in Etawah, said 508 farmers died across the district’s tehsils during 2025-26, and their families received assistance under the scheme.
