In a significant step towards strengthening early childhood care and community welfare, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) inaugurated a Model Anganwadi Centre in Bilaspur as part of its ₹4.72 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The project aims to improve the quality of services available to children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers by creating a modern and child-friendly learning environment.
The newly developed centre has been designed to provide enhanced facilities for early childhood education, nutrition, health monitoring, and overall development. Equipped with improved infrastructure and essential amenities, the centre is expected to create a safe and engaging space where young children can learn and grow while receiving the care and support envisaged under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme.
SECL officials stated that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to contributing to social development in communities located around its operational areas. Through its CSR activities, the company has consistently focused on sectors such as education, healthcare, skill development, sanitation, and women’s empowerment. The establishment of the model Anganwadi centre is another effort aimed at improving the quality of life of local residents and supporting government welfare programmes.
The upgraded facility features improved classrooms, child-centric learning materials, better sanitation arrangements, and a more welcoming atmosphere for beneficiaries. Special attention has been given to creating an environment that promotes holistic development, enabling children to participate in educational and recreational activities that support their cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
Officials highlighted that Anganwadi centres play a crucial role in delivering essential services at the grassroots level. Apart from providing pre-school education, these centres act as focal points for nutrition support, health awareness, immunization drives, and maternal care services. Strengthening such facilities can significantly improve outcomes related to child development and community health.
The CSR project, valued at ₹4.72 crore, is part of SECL’s broader strategy to invest in sustainable social infrastructure. By developing model centres with modern amenities, the company seeks to create benchmarks that can inspire similar improvements in other locations. The initiative also aligns with national objectives of enhancing child welfare and promoting inclusive development in rural and semi-urban areas.
During the inauguration, representatives emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between public institutions and corporate organizations in addressing social challenges. They noted that CSR programmes can complement government initiatives by providing additional resources and support for community-focused projects. Such partnerships help ensure that developmental benefits reach vulnerable sections of society more effectively.
Local residents and beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the upgraded centre would contribute to better educational and health outcomes for children in the area. The facility is expected to serve as a model for delivering quality services while fostering a nurturing environment for young learners.
With the launch of the Model Anganwadi Centre, SECL has reinforced its commitment to community development and social responsibility. The project underscores the growing role of public sector enterprises in supporting grassroots welfare initiatives and creating lasting positive impacts in the regions they serve.
