THDC India Limited celebrated its 39th Foundation Day with a renewed commitment to innovation, sustainable development, and strengthening India’s energy security. The celebrations were held at the company’s corporate office in Rishikesh and simultaneously across its project sites and unit offices nationwide, marking nearly four decades of contributions to the country’s power sector.
The event began with the hoisting of the THDCIL flag by Managing Director Sipan Kumar Garg, who reflected on the organization’s journey since its establishment. Addressing employees and senior officials, he acknowledged the dedication and teamwork that have enabled THDCIL to emerge as one of India’s leading public sector enterprises in the energy sector. He said the Foundation Day was not only a celebration of past achievements but also an opportunity to reaffirm the company’s commitment to operational excellence, technological innovation, and sustainable growth.
Highlighting the company’s recent progress, Garg noted that THDCIL has significantly expanded its operational capabilities. The organization has achieved a total installed power generation capacity of 3,907 MW following the commissioning of the 1,000 MW Tehri Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant and the 1,320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project. These projects represent major milestones in the company’s growth and reinforce its role in supporting the country’s expanding energy needs.
Garg emphasized that THDCIL is well-positioned to play a leading role in India’s transition toward a reliable and sustainable energy future. He underscored the importance of pumped storage projects in ensuring grid stability, integrating renewable energy, and enhancing energy security. According to him, the company’s continued investments in advanced power infrastructure will contribute significantly to the nation’s long-term development goals while supporting cleaner and more efficient energy generation.
The Foundation Day celebrations also recognized the efforts and achievements of employees across various departments. Outstanding performers were honoured through several award categories, including Meritorious Awards, Suggestion Mela Awards, Innovation Awards, Swift Decision-Making Awards, Best Employee Awards, Gaurav Awards, and the prestigious Naman Award. These recognitions highlighted the company’s focus on encouraging excellence, innovation, and a culture of continuous improvement.
The Naman Award was presented to former Director (Finance) J. Behera in recognition of his distinguished leadership and significant contribution to strengthening THDCIL’s financial systems and institutional development. His role in enhancing the company’s financial framework was acknowledged as a key factor in its sustained growth over the years.
Several senior officials, including Chief Technical Officer L.P. Joshi, Executive Director (Projects) Kumar Sharad, Chief General Manager (HR-Admin, CC) Dr. A.N. Tripathy, and other executives attended the ceremony. Their presence reflected the organization’s collective commitment to advancing innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable business practices.
As THDC India Limited enters its 40th year, the company has reiterated its resolve to expand its presence in the power sector through modern technologies, environmentally responsible projects, and strategic investments.
