Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over 50 motorcycles to the Assam Police on Sunday to improve traffic management, patrolling, law enforcement and emergency response in the state. The motorcycles were provided by Hero MotoCorp under its Ride Safe India CSR initiative.
The handover ceremony was held at the Lok Sewa Bhawan complex in Dispur, Guwahati, in the presence of senior police officials and representatives of Hero MotoCorp.
The new motorcycles are expected to help police personnel move faster through congested roads and reach accident spots and other emergency locations more quickly. They will also support traffic control, regular patrolling and law enforcement activities.
During the programme, Chief Minister Sarma also rode a motorcycle inside the Janata Bhawan complex while wearing a helmet. His action highlighted the importance of following traffic rules and practising safe and responsible riding.

As part of the initiative, traffic police personnel were also given specialised training. The training focused on traffic management, road safety, law enforcement and emergency response, helping officers deal more effectively with traffic-related challenges.
Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, Guwahati Police Commissioner Parthasarathi Mahanta and senior officials from Hero MotoCorp attended the event.
The motorcycle initiative comes shortly after another sustainability-focused programme in Guwahati. On Friday, Chief Minister Sarma launched bicycles made from bamboo at Sati Radhika Shanti Udyan in Uzanbazar.
Pune-based Bamboo India Private Limited is undertaking the bamboo bicycle project. The initiative aims to develop Assam as an important hub for bamboo bicycle manufacturing and promote sustainable transportation. The project involves an estimated investment of Rs 15 crore.
Together, the two initiatives highlight efforts to improve road safety, strengthen police services and promote sustainable transportation in Assam.
