Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has extended ₹3.79 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support to the Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Vayoshri Kendra (PMD-VK) in Bandra, Mumbai, to improve access to assistive devices and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
The initiative aims to promote mobility, independent living and self-reliance by strengthening the centre’s existing infrastructure and improving the availability of assistive technology.
The centre operates on the campus of the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (AYJNISHD) in Bandra and is managed by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

As part of the initiative, assistive devices were distributed to persons with disabilities at the centre in the presence of senior officials from MDL, ALIMCO and AYJNISHD. The officials included Arun K. Chand, Executive Director and Head of Department (CSR), MDL; Pradeep Mahadeshwar, Deputy General Manager (HR/CSR), MDL; Suman Kumar, Director, AYJNISHD; S. K. Tripathi, General Manager (Marketing), ALIMCO; and Mrinal Kumar, In-charge, ALIMCO Mumbai.
The Bandra centre provides various assistive devices, including motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, Sugamya Canes, walking sticks and other mobility aids. These products can help beneficiaries overcome mobility barriers and participate more actively in education, employment and community life.
Senior citizens can also access support products such as wheelchairs with commode facilities, walking sticks with seats, knee braces, lumbar support belts and spinal supports. Additionally, a 3D scanning facility for prosthetics will help enable customised design and fitting of artificial limbs according to individual needs.
The centre is part of ALIMCO’s nationwide network of PMD-VKs, established to bring assistive devices and rehabilitation services closer to eligible beneficiaries.
Through this CSR initiative, MDL seeks to strengthen inclusive services and improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities and senior citizens. The support also reflects cooperation between public sector organisations to promote accessibility, dignity and greater independence.
MDL is a Navratna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, headquartered in Mumbai. The company builds warships, submarines and other vessels for Indian and international customers.
