Swiggy has launched battery-swapping stations and electric vehicle (EV) rental services at its Instamart pods across 25 locations to support the adoption of electric two-wheelers for last-mile deliveries. The initiatives were announced at the company’s EV Mobility Conclave, themed “Powering the Last Mile”.
The battery-swapping stations were developed with ecosystem partners. Swiggy is also introducing EV rentals at the pods, so delivery partners can collect a vehicle from the same place where they pick up orders.
Why at the pods
The company says delivery partners visit an Instamart pod about 20 times on a busy day. By placing battery swapping and rentals there, Swiggy aims to reduce the time partners spend travelling to charging stations or vehicle collection points.
According to coverage of the event, the rental facility is integrated with the Swiggy app, with charges deducted from partners’ payouts according to their preference.
What the ecosystem needs
The conclave brought together EV manufacturers, charging and battery-swapping providers, rental and fleet partners, financiers and delivery partners to discuss how to make electric two-wheelers a practical and affordable option for last-mile delivery. Swiggy says EV adoption depends on enablers beyond any one platform: affordable financing, reliable charging and swapping, and supportive policy.
Partners recognised
The event also recognised delivery partners and ecosystem organisations involved in expanding EV adoption and supporting infrastructure. The ecosystem partners honoured included Indofast Energy, Yulu, Bounce Daily, RIDEV, Baaz Bikes, Motovolt, Shadowfax, BGauss Auto, Veelo Mobility, Hala Mobility and Yuma Energy.
