The Assam Cabinet has approved a ₹50,000-crore investment package for major capital-intensive projects to be carried out over the next five years, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said after a Cabinet meeting in Dispur.
Named “Viksit Assam: Infra Vision,” the package aims to improve public infrastructure and essential services across the state. The proposed investments will cover primary healthcare, schools, Anganwadi centres, housing for tea garden workers, roads and electricity infrastructure.
The plan also includes strengthening flood-control embankments in vulnerable parts of Assam. The government will additionally develop women’s markets and hostels and modernise industrial estates.
Chief Minister Sarma said the package would be funded through the state’s own resources, along with support from NABARD and various Central government schemes.
The Cabinet also gave its approval for an integrated 30 MW solar power project with a 25 MW/100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at Rakhyasini Jungle Block in Goalpara district.
Several other proposals were cleared, including the allocation of land in Kamrup (Metro) and Nagaon for industrial estates and land banks, and land in Dhemaji for a milk project. The Cabinet also approved a ₹300-crore project by Fermbox Bio Private Limited at Tezpur.
For the education sector, ₹109 crore has been sanctioned under SOPD-G for 2026–27 to complete infrastructure works at Gauhati University, including academic buildings, hostels and staff quarters.
The Cabinet also approved subsidised rates for masur dal and sugar for NFSA ration-card holders at ₹70 and ₹35 per kg, respectively. Flood-affected Orunodoi beneficiaries in Sivasagar and Charaideo will receive ₹2,000 this month, while beneficiaries in other districts will get ₹1,200.
The state government has also decided to provide ₹15,000 to the remaining flood-affected families from September 1.
