Honeywell will train over 3 lakh Indian students in AI, cybersecurity and emerging technologies by 2030. The initiative will focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, sustainability and other advanced technologies.
The programme will be implemented through partnerships with IIT Bombay, BharatCares, the Ladi Foundation and the Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development at IISc (FSID-IISc). Honeywell said its latest commitment builds on its efforts over the past decade, during which its education and community programmes have benefited more than 13 lakh people.
As part of the initiative, the IIT Bombay-Honeywell Technologies Centre of Excellence for Future Skills & Innovation will reach more than 1 lakh undergraduate students through a network of colleges. The centre will provide training in sustainability reporting, sustainable finance, energy security, sustainable infrastructure and policy advocacy. It will also encourage applied research, research fellowships and startup incubation.
Under Honeywell Technologies Future Skills Edge, the company plans to train around 2 lakh students in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity using hybrid and project-based learning methods. Four Centres of Excellence will be established in government institutions across Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka and Telangana, with the programme targeting 50% participation by women.
Honeywell is also working with the Ladi Foundation to upgrade 12 government and government-aided girls’ schools in Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana and Karnataka. The initiative is expected to benefit more than 12,000 students by providing smart classrooms, digital-skills training, health and hygiene awareness and leadership development.
The company will further expand its support for deep-science startups through FSID-IISc. By 2030, Honeywell expects to support nearly 75 early-stage startups and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence working in fields including AI, renewable energy, sustainability, cybersecurity and digitisation.
In addition, Honeywell said it engages more than 50 underprivileged interns each year through the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, offering them workplace exposure, mentoring and industry experience.
The company’s Saksham initiative, implemented through Hometown Solutions India Foundation, Honeywell’s philanthropic arm in the country, is aimed at widening access to STEM education and developing a workforce equipped for evolving technology and industry needs.
Ashish Modi, President of Honeywell Technologies India & APAC, said that strengthening the connection between education and employability will be important for India’s future growth and competitiveness.
Overall, Honeywell’s expanded initiative seeks to combine education, practical skills, research and entrepreneurship to help young Indians prepare for the changing demands of the technology-driven economy.
