Reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and responsible hospitality, ibis India, part of the Accor brand, has launched a nationwide beach clean-up initiative across Mumbai, Goa, Chennai, and Kochi. The initiative brought together hotel teams, local NGOs, civic authorities, and community volunteers to help restore and protect India’s coastlines. Through coordinated on-ground clean-up drives, participants removed plastic waste, litter, and other pollutants from beaches and shoreline areas, while promoting greater awareness of environmental conservation and responsible waste management. .
Through the on-ground activity, ibis contributed to cleaner shorelines while amplifying awareness around responsible waste disposal and marine conservation. The drive reflects the brand’s broader sustainability vision of supporting environmental awareness and community-led conservation efforts. The campaign comes amid increasing national focus on the impact of plastic pollution on India’s rivers, beaches, and marine ecosystems.
As concerns around plastic pollution and coastal degradation continue to grow across India, the need for sustained community participation and on-ground environmental action has become increasingly critical. Rising volumes of unmanaged waste are placing greater pressure on urban waste systems, beaches, and marine ecosystems, particularly in high-footfall coastal and tourism destinations. Against this backdrop, ibis’ nationwide beach clean-up drive underscores the brand’s commitment to supporting cleaner coastlines, mobilising local communities, and driving collective action towards the protection and preservation of India’s shoreline ecosystems.
“India’s vast coastline is not only an important ecological asset but also supports millions of livelihoods, communities, and tourism destinations across the country. With a presence across several coastal cities, ibis recognizes the importance of preserving these environments and promoting responsible practices that contribute to their long-term sustainability. Through the beach clean-up drive, the brand brought together employees, local partners, and community members to undertake meaningful action on the ground while fostering greater awareness around responsible waste management and marine conservation. The initiative reflects ibis’ belief that collective action can play a vital role in protecting coastlines and advancing more sustainable destinations for future generations,” said Vineet Mishra, Vice President – Premium, Midscale & Economy Hotels, India & South Asia.
Alongside the clean-up activities, participating ibis hotels also conducted community interactions and volunteer engagement initiatives aimed at encouraging greater public participation in protecting and maintaining waterfront areas. With several of its properties located near India’s coastlines and waterfront destinations, ibis continues to support sustainability-led initiatives that contribute towards more responsible tourism and environmentally conscious travel experiences.
