State-owned hydropower company NHPC celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with a series of environmental initiatives across its offices, power stations, project sites, and regional units, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and ecological conservation. The nationwide observance highlighted the organization’s focus on promoting environmental responsibility and fostering a culture of green practices among employees and stakeholders.
The central event was held at NHPC’s corporate office in Faridabad, where Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta led the celebrations by planting a sapling and inaugurating a plantation drive. The initiative formed part of a larger effort undertaken by the company to encourage environmental stewardship and strengthen awareness about sustainable development practices.
Addressing employees and officials during the programme, Gupta emphasized the urgent need for collective action to protect the environment. He urged individuals to adopt sustainable habits in their daily lives and contribute actively to environmental conservation efforts. Stressing the importance of preserving natural resources, he noted that maintaining ecological balance is essential for ensuring a healthy and secure future for coming generations.
The NHPC chief also highlighted the role of responsible corporate behaviour in addressing environmental challenges. He called on employees to become active participants in building a cleaner and greener future through conscious actions that support sustainability goals. According to him, environmental protection is a shared responsibility that requires consistent commitment from institutions and individuals alike.
Senior officers and employees enthusiastically participated in the plantation campaign, planting saplings within office premises and supporting similar activities at NHPC establishments across the country. The programme reflected the company’s broader strategy of integrating environmental considerations into its operational and community engagement initiatives.
As one of India’s leading hydropower companies, NHPC has long positioned itself as a promoter of clean and renewable energy. The company’s environmental initiatives align with its objective of sustainable development and responsible utilization of natural resources. Through activities such as afforestation drives, environmental awareness programmes, and conservation measures, NHPC continues to strengthen its contribution to India’s green transition.
The World Environment Day celebrations also served as a reminder of the importance of environmental action at a time when climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion remain major global concerns. By organizing plantation drives and encouraging employee participation, NHPC sought to reinforce the message that environmental protection requires continuous and collaborative efforts.
