REC Limited has extended significant support to strengthen healthcare access in Bihar by contributing ₹11.55 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The funding is aimed at establishing a Sankara Eye Hospital in Saharsa district, a move expected to improve eye care services in one of the state’s underserved regions. This initiative, titled “Bringing Vision to Bihar,” focuses on addressing preventable blindness and ensuring affordable treatment for economically weaker communities.
The upcoming hospital will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive eye care services to rural and low-income populations. It is designed to offer a wide range of treatments, including routine eye check-ups, diagnosis of vision-related conditions, and surgical procedures such as cataract operations. Cataracts remain one of the leading causes of blindness in India, particularly in rural areas where access to timely treatment is limited. By targeting this issue, the project aims to significantly reduce avoidable vision impairment in the region.
Over the next five years, the hospital is expected to handle approximately 1.5 lakh outpatient consultations and perform around 40,000 cataract surgeries. The hospital will be equipped with modern diagnostic tools, advanced surgical equipment, and well-maintained patient care facilities, ensuring quality treatment comparable to urban healthcare centers.

Mobile eye care units will be deployed to conduct regular eye screening camps in rural areas, identifying patients who require further treatment.
