The Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the corporate social responsibility division of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., has announced the successful planting of 5 lakh trees at the IONIQ Forest at Dange Chowk, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, marking a significant environmental milestone. With this accomplishment, the Foundation is now halfway to its lofty goal of planting 10 lakh trees on 90.5 acres in a year, making the IONIQ Forest the biggest and most ambitious urban afforestation project in Maharashtra.
Hyundai’s concept of sustainable transportation and environmental care is embodied in the IONIQ Forest, which was launched on June 5, 2025, World Environment Day. The initiative, which was created using the Miyawaki method, intends to establish a dense, self-sustaining forest ecosystem that fights urban heat islands and restores biodiversity. The project is turning a formerly barren area into a flourishing ecological zone, with 41 native tree species already taking root.
This is evidence that intentional corporate s₂ are anticipated to be absorbed by the forest over the course of the next five years, helping India reach its larger goal of net-zero emissions. Additionally, by fusing social empowerment with environmental restoration, the project has given more than 100 tribal community members green livelihoods. A significant portion of the Rs. 56-crore Hyundai Motor India Foundation’s CSR commitment in Maharashtra, which covers social welfare, healthcare, education, and road safety, is the IONIQ Forest. Together, these initiatives support Hyundai’s aim for a healthier, cleaner India and the state’s sustainable development objectives.
