350 children in Delhi without parental care will receive comprehensive care and protection thanks to a historic five-year partnership between SOS Children’s Villages India and the Department of Women and Child Development (Government of the NCT of Delhi). The partnership will be implemented through SOS India’s Kinship Care Program.
Mitali Namchoom, IAS, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, GNCT of Delhi, and Sumanta Kar, CEO, SOS Children’s Villages India, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at the Department’s headquarters in New Delhi. On this occasion, senior officials from both institutions were in attendance.
SOS Children’s Villages India will use this collaboration to expand its family-based care experience in order to improve the standard and effectiveness of the government’s sponsorship programme. By empowering carers and assuring each child’s emotional, physical, and educational development—helping them become self-assured, independent adults—the partnership seeks to strengthen family-based alternative care.
“Every child deserves the love, security, and stability of a family,” stated Mitali Namchoom, IAS, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, Government of the NCT of Delhi, in her remarks on the occasion. The way a society treats its most vulnerable citizens is, in our opinion at the Department of Women and Child Development, the real test of that society. Our shared goal of establishing a caring environment where each child can grow up with dignity and surrounded by people who genuinely care about them is reflected in our collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages India. In addition to providing children with monetary help, we are also protecting their emotional health, cultural identity, and family ties. We are working together to create a more resilient and caring Delhi where no child is left behind.
“At SOS Children’s Villages India, we have always believed that a child’s best interests are served when they grow up within a family, surrounded by love, belonging, and emotional security,” said Sumanta Kar, founder and CEO of the organisation. Our shared commitment to ensure that every kid, regardless of circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive is reaffirmed by this alliance. We will collaborate with families and carers to strengthen their capacity, offer psychosocial and educational assistance, and make sure that children not only survive but also thrive through the Kinship Care Program. Our objective is straightforward but profound: to guarantee that each child participating in this programme grows up with optimism and the self-assurance to direct their own destiny.
