On December 23, 2025, Pharmed Foundation, the corporate social responsibility division of Pharmed Limited, announced the opening of the KK Aurora Light of Hope Fund, a CSR initiative established in honour of its late chairman emeritus, Krishan Kumar Aurora.
The programme, which was started in collaboration with the Organisation for Rare Diseases India (ORD India), aims to close a significant gap that affects relatives of patients with rare diseases during the post-hospital stage of therapy. After leaving intensive care units, patients—especially children—often need ongoing respiratory and supportive treatment, and it can be expensive and logistically difficult to obtain necessary medical equipment.
The Pharmed Foundation will make essential respiratory and assistive medical items, such as oxygen therapy equipment, cough-assistance devices, non-invasive ventilation systems, and related technologies, more accessible as part of the CSR program. In order to facilitate continuous treatment and recuperation at home, this equipment will be made accessible to qualified patients on a free or reduced rental basis, contingent on medical prescriptions. The “KK Aurora Light of Hope” programme will target recipients in Bengaluru and other Karnataka locations over the course of the following three years, facilitating better coordination, efficient device administration, and prompt patient and carer support.
Suneet Aurora, Chairman and Managing Director of Pharmed Limited, provides further information: “Pharmed Foundation is committed to ensuring that patients, especially children with rare diseases, have access to compassionate, affordable, and timely respiratory support when they need it most.” The Fund aims to alleviate the financial strain on families and improve quality of life, which is a timeless value at the heart of Pharmed’s philosophy, by facilitating continuity of treatment after ICU discharge in accordance with medical guidance. The Pharmed Foundation facilitates access to necessary care, while ORD India keeps up its crucial work in raising awareness and advocating for the rare disease community throughout India. Our partnership with ORD India combines complementary qualities.
The Pharmed Foundation is taking a big step with this project to increase our humanitarian impact and give people in need much-needed support. It also honours the exceptional work of the pulmonary teams at Baptist Hospitals and MHB, whose continued care for these kids is genuinely admirable.
Even though rare diseases are uncommon on their own, they jointly impact a sizable portion of India’s population, according to data provided by ORD India. The burden is growing annually, with over 7,000 uncommon diseases recognised and an estimated 70 million affected nationwide. According to current estimates, one in twenty Indians suffers from a rare condition, many of which manifest early in infancy and necessitate ongoing supportive and respiratory treatment.
The Pharmed Foundation is proud to carry out such programmes that emphasise long-term social impact, healthcare access, and community well-being. The Foundation strives to support underprivileged communities and meet unmet needs through organised and long-lasting CSR programmes. As a national umbrella group for patients with rare diseases, the group for Rare Diseases India (ORD India) works hard to enhance diagnosis, care access, and long-term support for those with rare diseases and their families.
The KK Aurora Light of Hope Fund, which embodies his ideals of compassion, leadership, and service, is a permanent homage to Aurora’s legacy. Krishan Kumar Aurora, a trailblazer who devoted his life to bringing about significant and long-lasting change in the Indian pharmaceutical sector, is well-known for his humility, perseverance, and revolutionary leadership. Pharmed gained great reputation and confidence from healthcare providers nationwide under his leadership, becoming a symbol of innovation, quality, and excellence.
