A major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district has been delivered through a ₹7.19 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by NTPC’s Sipat unit. The project aims to strengthen medical services and improve access to advanced treatment for local residents by upgrading two key government healthcare institutions.
The funding has been distributed between the Kumar Saheb Late Shri Dilip Singh Judev Government Super Speciality Hospital and the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS). Of the total allocation, ₹4.27 crore has been invested in enhancing facilities at the super speciality hospital, while ₹2.92 crore has been used to procure modern medical equipment for CIMS.
At the super speciality hospital, the CSR support has enabled the development of advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities. These include a state-of-the-art blood centre, upgraded microbiology and hormone laboratories, and the introduction of advanced technologies such as AI-based microscopy systems. These improvements are expected to significantly enhance the accuracy and speed of diagnosis, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.
Meanwhile, CIMS has received a wide range of modern medical equipment across multiple departments. Around 26 machines have been installed to strengthen diagnostic and treatment capabilities. These include colour Doppler systems, chemiluminescence analysers, dental chairs, operation theatre tables, and mortuary freezers. The addition of such equipment is expected to improve the hospital’s ability to handle complex medical cases and provide comprehensive care under one roof.
The initiative was highlighted during an official event attended by Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs and Bilaspur Member of Parliament, Tokhan Sahu. The project underscores NTPC’s continued commitment to social development beyond its core role in power generation. By investing in healthcare infrastructure, the organisation aims to contribute to the overall well-being and quality of life of communities living near its operational areas.
Officials noted that these upgrades will play a crucial role in improving diagnostic capabilities, strengthening emergency and critical care services, and ensuring the availability of life-saving medical equipment. One of the key benefits of the initiative is that it reduces the need for patients to travel to bigger cities for advanced treatment, saving both time and money for families.
The move comes at a time when strengthening public healthcare systems is increasingly important, particularly in semi-urban and rural regions. With better-equipped hospitals and improved diagnostic services, patients in Bilaspur and nearby areas are expected to receive timely and effective medical care locally.
Overall, the ₹7.19 crore CSR investment marks a significant step toward enhancing healthcare delivery in the region. By focusing on infrastructure, technology, and accessibility, the initiative is set to create a lasting positive impact on public health and ensure that quality medical services are within reach for a larger population.
