PVR NEST, the corporate social responsibility arm of PVR INOX, has joined hands with Unicharm India to launch a large-scale menstrual health awareness initiative aimed at empowering women and girls across Delhi’s underserved communities. The campaign, titled “Period Positivity,” seeks to break long-standing taboos around menstruation while promoting accurate knowledge, hygiene practices, and community support systems.
The programme was formally launched at the Garima Grih centre in Kirti Nagar, Delhi, and will be implemented through PVR NEST’s network of Pink Centres and Garima Grihs operating in partnership with government agencies. These centres collectively reach more than one million women and girls every year across 35 urban slum communities in the national capital, making them a strong platform for expanding awareness and encouraging behavioural change.
At the heart of the initiative is the goal of addressing misconceptions and stigma that continue to surround menstruation in many communities. Through a series of workshops and educational sessions, participants will receive guidance on menstrual hygiene management, reproductive health, safe disposal of menstrual waste, and the prevention of common infections such as urinary tract infections. The campaign aims to ensure that women and girls have access to reliable information that can improve their health, confidence, and overall well-being.
A distinguishing feature of the programme is its inclusive approach. Rather than limiting discussions to women and girls, the campaign actively involves families and boys to create broader understanding and support within communities. By encouraging open conversations among all members of society, the initiative hopes to challenge harmful stereotypes and foster a more positive attitude toward menstruation.
To strengthen long-term impact, the project will also focus on capacity building at the grassroots level. Ten Master Trainers will be trained to lead awareness efforts, while a network of 20 Community Period Positivity Champions will be established to continue education and advocacy within local neighbourhoods. These community leaders are expected to play a vital role in sustaining awareness beyond the duration of the campaign.
Speaking at the launch, representatives from PVR NEST highlighted the trust that women place in the organisation’s centres for health, sanitation, skill development, and community support. They noted that these centres provide an ideal environment for addressing menstrual health concerns that are often surrounded by silence and misinformation. The partnership with Unicharm India brings additional expertise in menstrual hygiene education and resources, helping to expand the campaign’s reach and effectiveness.
Unicharm India reaffirmed its commitment to improving menstrual health awareness through training, technical support, and educational materials. Company representatives emphasized that access to accurate information can significantly improve the confidence and quality of life of women and girls while promoting healthier communities.
The Period Positivity Campaign will continue throughout 2026 and will include community outreach activities, awareness drives, educational programmes, and a social impact assessment to measure behavioural changes and overall outcomes. Through this collaborative effort, PVR NEST and Unicharm India aim to create a more informed, supportive, and stigma-free environment for menstrual health across Delhi’s communities.
