The initiative aims to recognise the contribution of frontline workers and promote nutrition awareness among communities.

Delhi to Honour Anganwadi Workers Through Special Programmes
New Delhi, September 23: The Delhi government is set to increase the stipend of Anganwadi workers and provide them with essential kits to support their work, officials said on Monday. The announcement comes as the government prepares to organise special programmes across all 70 Assembly constituencies from September 23.
The initiative is part of the month-long birthday celebrations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is also linked to the 9th National Nutrition Month 2026, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.
Each Anganwadi worker will receive a felicitation kit worth ₹2,500. The kit includes a bag, uniform, insulated water bottle, cap, first-aid pouch and umbrella. The chief guest at each Assembly-level programme will present the kits to frontline workers associated with Anganwadi services.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the important role played by Anganwadi workers in supporting children and women.“Anganwadi workers play a crucial role in taking government services to children and women, honouring their contribution is our responsibility,” Gupta said.
Officials said the proposed stipend increase is aimed at ensuring that the responsibilities and contributions of Anganwadi workers receive due recognition. The move is also intended to provide greater support to workers who help deliver government services at the grassroots level.
Around 25,000 invitations are being sent for the special programmes, with nearly 500 participants expected in each constituency. The participants will include MLAs, public representatives, beneficiaries, children, pregnant and lactating women, parents, Anganwadi workers and helpers, creche workers and helpers, and community representatives.
Participants will also take a nutrition pledge during the programmes.
The Department of Women and Child Development is observing National Nutrition Month from September 17 to October 17 under the Central Government-sponsored Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan scheme. This year’s theme is “Hamari Anganwadi, Hamari Zimmedari.”
The government said the campaign aims to improve nutrition awareness, strengthen community participation and encourage collective responsibility towards Anganwadi services.
