Ayan Reddiapatti, the native village of Tamil Nadu Social Justice Minister Vanni Arasu in Tiruchirapalli district, achieved a historic milestone on Sunday by receiving government bus connectivity for the first time since Independence.
Sharing the development on X, Arasu said his village got direct public bus service on September 13, as India entered its 81st year after marking its 80th Independence Day.
Residents and elders from different communities gathered to welcome the inaugural bus, showering it with flowers and waving flags. The VCK Deputy General Secretary described the celebrations as a symbol of social harmony, saying the villagers felt as though they were witnessing “another freedom.”
Speaking about the personal importance of the occasion, Arasu recalled that his late parents had frequently encouraged him to work for the welfare of their native village. He said that being able to fulfil their long-standing wish in their absence, and seeing the happiness of the villagers, gave him immense solace.
Arasu also conveyed his gratitude, on behalf of the residents of Ayan Reddiapatti, to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Transport Minister A Vijay Thamizhan Parthiban for enabling the introduction of the new bus service.
