HYDERABAD: The Telangana government will provide financial assistance of up to ₹1 lakh to eligible youth to help them start self-employment units from November 19, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said on Tuesday. The assistance will be provided in the first phase under the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme.
Vikramarka, who also holds the Finance portfolio, directed officials to begin receiving applications and ensure that beneficiaries are selected through a transparent process. The selection will be carried out in the presence of district collectors.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government had made a budgetary allocation for the scheme and was committed to creating self-employment opportunities for young people. The initiative aims to support youth in setting up small businesses and income-generating units.
Vikramarka and Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar reviewed the implementation of SC and ST welfare programmes at Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad. The meeting covered residential schools, educational infrastructure, scholarships, study circles and self-employment programmes.
₹25 crore for modern kitchens
The meeting also discussed the establishment of mechanised centralised kitchens for SC residential schools. Vikramarka said ₹25 crore had already been allocated in the Budget for managing the kitchens and purchasing machinery.
He asked officials to prepare a detailed action plan within 15 days for setting up mechanised kitchens in all SC residential schools. He also stressed that students should continue to receive food without disruption until the new kitchens are ready.
Officials were asked to study mechanised kitchen models used for the government’s free breakfast programme and examine whether they could be adopted in SC residential institutions.
Study on students’ progress
Vikramarka also ordered officials to prepare a database of students who completed their education over the past 10 years at Hyderabad Public School, Ramanthapur Public School and residential and welfare educational institutions across Telangana.
The government plans to study the students’ social and economic progress, including higher education, employment and reasons for dropping out. Officials were directed to commission the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) to assess how education and facilities provided by these institutions affected students’ lives.
The meeting also reviewed spending on SC Study Circles, candidate selection, training and outcomes.
