Fleetguard Filters Private Limited (FFPL) organised a river cleaning campaign at Vruddheshwar Siddheshwar Ghat in Pune as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts focused on environmental sustainability and community participation. The initiative was conducted at the historic ghat located in Shaniwar Peth on May 21, 2026, with the objective of promoting cleaner waterways and raising awareness about responsible waste management.
Around 55 employee volunteers from the company actively participated in the drive, which was held between 7 am and 9 am. During the activity, volunteers collected nearly 200 kilograms of waste, including plastic debris and discarded materials lying along the riverbank. The collected waste was later segregated for proper disposal in partnership with Poornam Ecovision Foundation, an organisation involved in environmental conservation activities.
The campaign aimed to restore cleanliness at the ghat while encouraging local communities to become more conscious about protecting river ecosystems. Volunteers worked together to remove litter and improve the surroundings, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in preserving natural resources. Company representatives said such activities play an important role in building awareness about pollution and sustainable civic behaviour.
Speaking about the initiative, company officials emphasised that sustainability is not limited to industrial operations but also extends to meaningful community engagement. They noted that environmental protection requires participation from citizens, institutions, and businesses alike. Through employee-led volunteering programmes, the company hopes to inspire long-term behavioural change and encourage people to keep public spaces and water bodies clean.
The river cleaning drive forms part of Fleetguard Filters’ broader CSR strategy, which includes environmental protection, rural development, sanitation, and community welfare initiatives. The company has previously organised plantation drives, sanitation campaigns, and awareness programmes across several regions in India. Its CSR efforts have also received industry recognition for contributing to clean drinking water and sanitation projects benefiting thousands of people.
Pune’s rivers, including the Mula and Mutha rivers, have long faced pollution challenges due to waste dumping and urban expansion. Over the years, several civic groups, NGOs, and volunteers have conducted cleanup drives at various ghats and riverbanks across the city. Environmental activists have repeatedly stressed the need for continuous public participation and stronger waste management practices to improve river health.
Public concern regarding river pollution in Pune has continued to grow, with many citizens calling for better conservation measures and stricter implementation of environmental policies. Discussions on social media and community platforms frequently highlight the need for sustained efforts to protect the city’s water bodies from increasing pollution and neglect.
Through this latest initiative, Fleetguard Filters reinforced its commitment to environmental conservation and community-driven action. By involving employees directly in river restoration activities, the company aims to promote ecological awareness while contributing to cleaner and healthier urban spaces. The drive also served as a reminder that consistent small-scale actions can collectively make a significant impact on environmental sustainability and river preservation in growing cities like Pune.
