AIIMS New Delhi and Union Bank of India have joined hands to strengthen tuberculosis (TB) research through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of the disease.
A new research project titled “Comprehensive Study of Genotype and Phenotype of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Along with Its Clinical Impact” was launched at the Department of Medicine, AIIMS New Delhi, on October 6. The initiative is being supported by Union Bank of India as part of its CSR efforts.

The launch was attended by Prof Nikhil Tandon, Director, AIIMS New Delhi, and Shri H K Das, General Manager, Union Bank of India, Delhi Zone. The collaboration brings together a leading medical research institution and a public sector bank to support scientific work on one of India’s major public health challenges.
The study will focus on the genetic and physical characteristics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes TB. Researchers will examine how these characteristics are linked to the clinical impact of the disease. The findings are expected to provide useful evidence that could help doctors better understand TB and support more effective clinical management.
Speaking at the event, Prof Nikhil Tandon thanked Shri Asheesh Pandey, MD & CEO, Union Bank of India and Social Foundation Trust, Union Bank, for supporting the research through the bank’s CSR initiative. He also highlighted the importance of partnerships between academic institutions and public sector organisations in addressing major health challenges.
The project aims to connect scientific research with practical patient care. By studying TB at both the genetic and clinical levels, the initiative seeks to contribute to better diagnosis, treatment strategies and patient outcomes.AIIMS New Delhi said it remains committed to research, innovation and collaborations that can turn scientific advances into improved healthcare and support wider efforts towards TB elimination.
