Mitsubishi Electric India marked World Earth Day 2026 by strengthening its lake conservation initiative in Talegaon near Pune, highlighting its continued commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement. The programme was conducted in collaboration with Earthwatch Institute India and brought together employees for hands-on activities focused on ecological preservation.
As part of the initiative, employees participated in an interactive “Walk & Talk” session along the Talegaon Dabhade Lake. Using digital field guides and mobile-based tools, participants explored the importance of urban ecosystems, particularly the role of lakes and green spaces in maintaining biodiversity and ecological balance. This experiential learning approach helped deepen their understanding of environmental challenges in rapidly urbanizing regions.
The event also included a clean-up drive and plantation activity, where employees actively contributed to improving the lake’s surroundings. By removing waste and planting greenery, participants played a direct role in enhancing the local ecosystem. These activities aimed not only to restore the lake environment but also to instill a sense of responsibility toward nature among individuals.
In addition to fieldwork, the programme featured an educational session on carbon and water footprints. Employees learned practical methods to measure and reduce their environmental impact in daily life. Demonstrations of advanced tools such as automatic weather stations, air quality monitoring systems, and water quality testing technologies provided insights into how scientific data can support conservation efforts.
The Earth Day engagement concluded with a reflection session and group discussion, encouraging participants to translate their learning into long-term behavioural changes. The initiative emphasized that awareness alone is not enough; sustained action and individual commitment are essential for meaningful environmental progress.
This event also marked one year since the launch of Mitsubishi Electric India’s lake conservation CSR programme, which began in the financial year 2024–25. Over the past year, the initiative has focused on protecting water bodies and enhancing biodiversity in Talegaon and nearby areas. Activities have included biodiversity mapping, development of digital field guides, and citizen science programmes involving students, women’s groups, and local communities.
The programme has also supported plantation drives, environmental education, and capacity-building efforts to ensure long-term sustainability through community participation. By involving diverse stakeholders, the initiative aims to create a self-sustaining model of conservation driven by local communities.
According to company leadership, the initiative is designed to go beyond awareness campaigns by enabling people to actively engage in environmental protection. The integration of on-ground activities, scientific tools, and community involvement reflects a holistic approach to sustainability. It also aligns with the company’s broader philosophy of driving positive change and contributing to global sustainability goals.
With climate change posing increasing risks to ecosystems, such efforts highlight the importance of local action in building environmental resilience. Mitsubishi Electric India’s work in Talegaon demonstrates how corporate social responsibility initiatives can play a vital role in conserving natural resources, restoring ecosystems, and fostering long-term environmental stewardship.
