The Ministry of Tourism has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google India to enhance the digital promotion of the country’s tourism destinations under the iconic Incredible India campaign. The partnership aims to leverage digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), data-driven insights, and capacity-building initiatives to improve India’s visibility among domestic and international travellers while creating a more engaging tourism ecosystem.
The agreement was exchanged in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Google India also attended the signing ceremony, highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening public-private collaborations to accelerate tourism growth through technology.
The MoU establishes a collaborative framework between the Ministry and Google India in key areas such as digital tourism promotion, knowledge sharing, skill development, and the adoption of emerging technologies to enrich visitor experiences. Through Google’s extensive digital ecosystem, the partnership will promote India’s diverse tourism offerings, including cultural heritage, historical landmarks, natural attractions, and unique travel experiences to a global audience.
A major component of the collaboration will involve the use of Google’s analytical capabilities to provide valuable insights into global travel demand, visitor behaviour, and emerging tourism trends. These insights will support the Ministry in making informed decisions, designing targeted campaigns, and identifying opportunities to attract more travellers from key international markets.
The partnership will also focus on strengthening digital discovery through the Incredible India platform. Google Maps integration is expected to improve destination navigation and accessibility, while YouTube will support the creation and distribution of authentic visual content showcasing India’s tourism potential. These initiatives are intended to enhance global awareness of India’s diverse destinations and inspire travellers to explore lesser-known regions alongside established tourist attractions.
Another important aspect of the collaboration is capacity building. Google India will conduct specialised training programmes and workshops to help Ministry officials strengthen their digital marketing capabilities and effectively utilise modern tools for tourism promotion. The initiative is expected to improve the government’s ability to engage audiences through data-driven communication strategies and innovative digital campaigns.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said digital technologies have the potential to create immersive experiences that showcase India’s cultural richness and heritage to audiences around the world. He noted that the collaboration would strengthen India’s global tourism presence, improve digital outreach, and reinforce the country’s position as a modern and competitive travel destination. Google India representatives also expressed their commitment to supporting the Ministry’s vision by combining technology, digital expertise, and travel insights to promote India’s diverse tourism landscape.
The collaboration is non-commercial, non-binding, and non-exclusive, with no financial implications for either party. By combining government initiatives with Google’s technological expertise, the partnership is expected to modernise tourism promotion, enhance destination discovery, and contribute to the continued growth of India’s tourism sector while strengthening the global reach of the Incredible India campaign.
