The Adani Group has reinforced its commitment to nurturing India’s future scientific talent by supporting the Research Science Initiative (RSI) India 2026, a fully funded six-week residential STEM research programme hosted at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. Conducted in collaboration with the US-based Centre for Excellence in Education (CEE), the initiative offers exceptional high school students an opportunity to engage in advanced scientific research under the guidance of leading IISc faculty members.
Inspired by the globally acclaimed Research Science Initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), RSI India aims to cultivate scientific curiosity among young learners and encourage them to pursue careers in research and innovation. This year’s programme brought together 32 carefully selected students from across the country, providing them with hands-on laboratory experience, advanced coursework, and mentorship from renowned scientists.
Participants described the programme as one of the most enriching academic experiences of their lives. Students highlighted that the six-week residency not only deepened their understanding of scientific research but also enabled them to collaborate with like-minded peers who shared a passion for learning and discovery. Beyond laboratory work, the programme included interactive sessions, visits to science galleries, and extracurricular activities that created a well-rounded learning environment.
Several students noted that the programme challenged them academically while helping them develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and confidence in pursuing pure science. They also appreciated that the initiative was fully funded, making world-class research exposure accessible to talented students irrespective of their financial background. According to participants, such opportunities can inspire more young Indians to choose careers in scientific research and contribute to groundbreaking innovations in the future.
Professor Deepak Saini, Faculty Convener of RSI India, emphasised the importance of exposing students to research at an early stage. He observed that many Indian students traditionally gravitate towards engineering and medicine, while the country also requires a strong pool of researchers in the basic sciences to drive innovation. By allowing students to work on real scientific problems in a premier research institution, the programme offers them a glimpse into the world of scientific discovery and encourages them to explore STEM careers.
Professor Saini also acknowledged the Adani Group’s support in making the initiative possible, stating that the company’s vision aligns with the programme’s objective of creating the next generation of Indian scientists and innovators. The partnership between industry, academia, and global educational institutions demonstrates how collaborative efforts can strengthen India’s research ecosystem.
The valedictory ceremony at IISc showcased student research presentations, recognised outstanding achievements, and celebrated the successful completion of the programme. As India continues to strengthen its focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, initiatives like RSI India are expected to play a significant role in identifying and nurturing the country’s brightest young minds, equipping them with the skills and inspiration needed to address future scientific and technological challenges.
