Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, Norway, where leaders from India and the five Nordic nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in green technology, innovation, trade, sustainability, and emerging technologies. The summit marked another significant step in deepening India’s strategic engagement with the Nordic region, which has emerged as an important partner in areas such as clean energy, digital transformation, climate action, and resilient supply chains.
Hosted by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, the summit brought together the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and India. The leaders reviewed the progress made since previous India-Nordic Summits and explored new opportunities for collaboration in sectors including renewable energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, maritime cooperation, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.
Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting, Prime Minister Modi announced that India and the Nordic countries had agreed to elevate their relationship to a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership. He said the partnership would combine the Nordic region’s expertise in sustainability and technological innovation with India’s scale, talent, and rapidly growing market to develop trusted solutions for global challenges.
The leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in clean energy, green hydrogen, climate-resilient infrastructure, digital public infrastructure, startups, and research collaborations. They highlighted the importance of strengthening innovation ecosystems, encouraging investment flows, and promoting partnerships between businesses, academic institutions, and technology companies. Greater collaboration in sustainable urban development, circular economy practices, and climate-friendly technologies also featured prominently during the discussions.
Economic ties were another major focus of the summit. Prime Minister Modi noted that bilateral trade between India and the Nordic countries has grown substantially over the past decade, while investments from Nordic nations into India have increased significantly. He invited companies from the region to participate in India’s growth story across sectors such as manufacturing, digital services, green mobility, innovation, and infrastructure development.
The summit also addressed global and regional issues of mutual concern, including resilient supply chains, maritime security, technological cooperation, and support for a rules-based international order. The leaders emphasized the need for closer international collaboration to address climate change, energy security, and sustainable economic development while promoting peace and stability.
The India-Nordic Summit has evolved into an important platform for enhancing political dialogue and economic cooperation between India and the Nordic region. With the launch of the Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, both sides aim to accelerate collaboration in future-oriented sectors that support sustainable growth, technological advancement, and shared prosperity. The summit reaffirmed the commitment of India and the Nordic countries to building stronger partnerships based on innovation, environmental responsibility, and long-term strategic cooperation.
